Saraswati is the goddess of knowledge and wisdom, and is worshipped by Hindus all over the world. She is often depicted holding a veena, which is a symbol of her musical and artistic talents. Saraswati is said to be the author of the Vedas, and is therefore considered to be the patron goddess of learning and literature. In many Hindu schools and colleges, Saraswati puja is held on the first day of the academic year, in order to bless the students with knowledge and wisdom.
